Print approval and analysis
Many years of experience in the area of print approval and analysis allow us to offer you an outstanding service in this field.
With our support, many printing houses are able to work to ISO 12647. By taking the right approach when using CTP curves for periodic and non-periodic screens, ISO-standard quality can be achieved. The latest testing technology and analysis software are combined with staff expertise to ensure outstanding print results. In the case of problematic print jobs, the printing house's compliance with the ISO standard is checked and supported when necessary.
Color Management System
15 years of experience with the ICC (International Color Consortium) CMS (Color Management System) and more than 20 years of experience in the areas of print analysis and high-end scanning provide the foundations of our colour management expertise. State-of-the-art applications from a variety of producers support the creation of ICC profiles for outstanding printing products. Under specific printing conditions, we are able to develop tailor-made ICC profiles.
We currently work with specifically-designed high-quality profiles on the Fogra colour space basis. In doing so, we guarantee improved runability as well as enhanced correction possibilities at the preliminary stage and in printing, simultaneously ensuring optimal compatibility with the ISO Standard. Burki & Scherer AG employees were also involved in the creation of the current ISO-ICC profiles.
Thanks to Burki & Scherer AG's Process Chain, all that remains to be confirmed in order to meet ISO certification is that all components involved in the CMS process are correctly coordinated. All devices are calibrated and ICC profiled, from the monitor to the scanner and the digital camera to separation in Photoshop and the proof.
This service offered by Burki & Scherer AG is of particular use to printing houses and advertising agencies.
Assessment and Analysis
With modern spectral photometric assessment technology and well-trained eyes, we analyse proofs, prints and images. These quality reports show the status and support the optimisation process.
With our expertise in the use of CMS hardware and software we provide assistance in, for example, the process-adjusted implementation of pantone colours in CMYK, RGB or CIE Lab.
Pre-flight
The word pre-flight, referring to aircraft simulation before a flight, comes from the realm of aviation and is used in the printing industry to describe a process that ensures, with or without software, that the electronic data can be processed without any problems. Numerous parameters such as, for example, image resolution and formation, texts, line size, colours, overprinting and trapping can be checked with pre-flight software. The correct use of ICC profiles, consistency, values and bleeding, as well as many other influencing variables, are examined conventionally by our specialists. This is of benefit for the data producer, the printer and, last but not least, you as the customer.
Barcode
Barcodes, beside RFID (Radio Frequency Identification), are found on all packaging nowadays. Unreadable barcodes can result in massive costs for logistics. As barcodes are read with a scanner, many criteria need to be taken into consideration. The size of the bars and the distance between them, the background colouring, the colour of the bars, the spread or shrinkage of the bar on printing - all these factors have a impact on the barcode’s usability. We would be delighted to help you design and use barcodes. If required, we can produce a report on the quality of the barcodes that are printed or exposed on film. You can rely on us to produce all common barcodes – from EAN and UPC to ISBN.
Data transfer/Webshare
More than just fast data transfer.
In this day and age, data of all kinds needs to be accessed quickly and securely at all times. Data transfer via FTP can sometimes be long-winded or even, in the case of port rejection due to a firewall, prove to be impossible.
Our data transfer allows the exchange of required files over the standard port 80 (http) via web browsers. No dedicated software is needed. Password encoding and a two-tier system (separate transfer server and data server) guarantee a high-level of security. A preview including a zoom function for image data and PDFs is available for exact identification. ZIP stream and automatic extraction of the transferred ZIP data in combination with a fast data line (fibre optic connection) further streamlines the exchange considerably.
General writing conventions for handling electronic files should be maintained for reasons of compatibility (if exchange needs to be carried out over different platforms).
