Output

Print media data is processed through standardised, efficient workflows. Color management systems guarantee print results by validating whether colours can be achieved. Thanks to the Process Chain BuS our outputs meet required national and international standard specifications.

PDF/X–3 (certified)

PDF/X–3 is not a new PDF format. Although PDF/X-3 is based on a normal PDF, a modern PostScript RIP is required to process it in a printer. PDF/X–3 describes which settings are permitted, necessary or not allowed for the production of a PDF/X-3.

PDF/X-3 is used to exchange high resolution data ready for printing, independently of applications or platforms. A PDF/X-3 PDF contains the description for the later intended use and other processing and print-relevant parameters. PDF/X-3 is formalised in ISO Standard 15930-3:2002. The purpose of this standard is to ensure the faultless exchange of print data.

The Swiss organisation PDFX–ready specifies the requirements of the ISO Standard 15930-3:2002 in relatively general terms. It results in significantly better communication between PDF producers and recipients.

For ISO 12647 certification from UGRA, Burki & Scherer AG also had to pass PDFX-ready certification and was awarded the certificates PDFX ready Creator classic and PDFX ready Certified Expert.

PDF creation is carried out at Burki & Scherer AG with a qualified preliminary stage workflow and is validated in a pre-flight check. This guarantees optimal print data.

Proof ISO 12647 – 7

The ISO Standard 12647–7:2007, “Proofing Processes Working Directly from Digital Data”, describes the quality criteria for a proof validated under ISO. Contract proofs must be binding in terms of colour, condition and content. This means that a proof should represent the subsequent printed product as exactly as possible. Colour contract proofs are validated in terms of colour with a colour control wedge. Compliance with tolerance is established at Burki & Scherer AG with a quality label per proof.

  • Paperwhite Delta E: 3
  • Max Delta E: 6
  • Average Delta E: 3
  • Primaries Delta E: 5
  • Primaries Delta H: 2,5
  • CMY gray Delta H: 1,5

As the subsequent original printing paper cannot be used with today’s inkjet proofers, the optical impression of the paper white base is simulated on the proof. Unfortunately, the haptic aspect cannot be taken into account.

Proofs are more or less susceptible to metamerism. If proofs and prints are compared under poor or artificial light, the same colours can be perceived differently.

All proofs at Burki & Scherer AG contain a “UGRA/Fogra Media Wedge V2” control wedge. At quality control, each proof is examined for colour accuracy with a media wedge, labelled and signed. By giving the “right-to-print”, the customer certifies that the content is correct. If the respective printing house also works to ISO 12647, a very consistent result can be expected.

Digital printing

Xerox Docucolor 250

Format A3+ for formats up to A3 with trim

50 full-colour pages per minute guarantee economic printing of small series.

The latest toner technology allows the processing of prints without the appearance of broken-up toner particles (typical of xerographic printing processes) in the folded edges.

Thanks to colour calibration and printing screen construction, the quality of colour prints almost matches that of conventional offset printing.

The use of diverse substrata from approximately 50 to 300 g/m2 also makes many special applications possible.

Poster printing

Two HP design jets with UV ink system and an Epson Stylus Pro with the latest PostScript RIP are available for the production of posters for a variety of applications. Our aim is not to produce cheap and cheerful posters, but to ensure colour precision of offset-printing quality. We offer small series up to 1’500 mm printing width.
